2019 Jerez Moto2 FP2 Result: Schrotter Sneaks Ahead Of Marquez

By Zara Daniela | Fri, 03/05/2019 - 14:10

Despite a small delay with the start due to a late red flag in the MotoGP session, the intermediate class riders were eager to go out and brave the heat. While the FP1 benchmark took some beating, Tetsuta Nagashima was the fastest man on track for much of the session, dethroning FP1 leader Jorge Navarro. Fresh rubber came out of its heaters for the final five minutes and it made a massive difference to the timesheets. Marcel Schrotter was the main beneficiary, the Dynavolt rider leading the way from Alex Marquez, who missed out on top honours by only one hundredth of a second. Meanwhile, Navarro failed to improve due to a crash at turn 11 in the final couple of minutes and dropped to third.

Augusto Fernandez kept spirits up in the Flexbox HP 40 team with a fourth place and less than half a tenth keeping him away from top spot. Nagashima did not manage to go faster than his early benchmark and settled for fifth, while Bo Bendsneyder and Tom Luthi made an appearance in sixth and seventh positions. Fabio Di Giannantonio, Sam Lowes and Remy Gardner added to the list of names that missed out on top positions in FP1 but made a recovery to complete the top ten for the afternoon session.

No such luck for Luca Marini and Brad Binder in 11th and 12th spots, although both riders finished the session barely four tenths away from the leader. Coming from a challenging FP1 session, Lorenzo Baldassarri’s afternoon did not get much better with a fall at turn two in the final 15 minutes. Regardless, the Italian climbed into 13th place, faster than the likes of Enea Bastianini and a very subdued Xavi Vierge.
