2019 Le Mans Moto3 FP2 Result: Ogura Impresses Again

By Zara Daniela | Fri, 17/05/2019 - 12:14

The second set of sessions for the day started with some more cloud cover gathering over the Bugatti Circuit and with the threat of rain for the remaining practice session, lightweight class seemed in a hurry to set up a competitive time for the important top 14. Quite a few riders got caught out in some that rush and visited the gravel trap and runoff areas all throughout the session, including Aron Canet, Darryn Binder, John McPhee, Lorenzo Dalla Porta, Romano Fenati and Niccolo Anotoneli.

It wasn’t all bad news for the SIC58 squad as Tatsuki Suzuki set camp at the top of the timesheets while all this was unfolding. The only real threat to his position came in the final five minutes of the session, when fresh rubber came out for a time attack, and it was rookie Ai Ogura who dethroned his compatriot to make an impression at the top of the timesheets. Antonelli and Suzuki followed him in the top three but only thousandths of a second kept them ahead of the very tight pack behind them.

Andrea Migno, Albert Arenas, Tony Arbolino, Canet and Gabriel Rodrigo occupied positions four to eight within one tenth of a second of each other, while Raul Fernandez and Dennis Foggia completed the top ten. The luckiest man of the session was Dalla Porta, the Italian taking a second tumble on his final flying lap but managed to keep 12th spot, behind Kazuki Masaki and ahead of Kaito Toba.

Romano Fenati was the last man to join the provisional top 14, although the Italian finished the session with a visit to the medical centre after a hefty crash. Jaume Masia had a promising start to FP2 but also joined the crash list and looked to be in quite a bit of pain as he was aided off the circuit and dropped down to 16th on the timesheets.
