2019 Assen Moto3 FP1 Result: Ogura Shines In Overcast Assen

By Zara Daniela | Fri, 28/06/2019 - 07:56

Assen could not quite match the welcome of Montmelo a couple of weeks ago so the lightweight class started the action on a cold track under an overcast sky. Regardless, it was a pretty uneventful morning session where the highlight was Honda Team Asia’s beautiful anniversary livery getting some well deserved air time and rookie Ai Ogura putting his name at the top of the timesheets by the time the checkered flag came out.

Montmelo victor Marcos Ramirez was back at the business end in second position, six hundredths of a second slower than the leader, while Jakub Kornfeil completed the top three another two hundredths back. Romano Fenati in fourth was the final rider who managed to drop their times into the 1:42, with Lorenzo Dalla Porta narrowly missing out on that minor achievement in fifth.

Gabriel Rodrigo comes to Assen carrying a grid penalty but his early speed is as good as always, the Gresini rider sixth, ahead of rookie Sergio Garcia and John McPhee, the trio within four tenths of the lead. Tony Arbolino and Albert Arenas completed the top ten, over half a second slower than Ogura. The likes of Tatsuki Suzuki and Niccolo Antonelli were not too far behind, while championship leader Aron Canet had a pretty low key morning in 21st position.
