2019 Brno Moto3 FP1 Result: Masia Happy To Go Back To School

The first green flag waving in Brno marked the end of the summer holidays and the cloud cover definitely did not hint at sun loungers and cocktails. However, Jaume Masia seemed to have returned refreshed from his break and climbed to the top of the timesheets towards the end of the session. Gabriel Rodrigo didn’t make his life too easy but the Gresini rider had to settle for second for only two thousandths of a second. Behind the two leading men, the gap to the field grew to almost three tenths in the final couple of minutes, with John McPhee best of the rest in third.

Rookie Ai Ogura continued to put his name in contention with fourth position in FP1, closely followed by Andrea Migno in fifth, Marcos Ramirez in sixth and Romano Fenati seventh. Albert Arenas was the first man over half a second slower than the leader but a mere thousandth kept him ahead of local favourite Jakub Kornfeil. Darryn Binder completed the top ten, just about edging ahead of Aron Canet. The former championship leader finished one place ahead of the new championship leader, Lorenzo Dalla Porta 12th and two hundredths of a second slower than Canet.

The likes of Tony Arbolino, Tatsuki Suzuki, Kaito Toba or Nicolo Antonelli were a bit slower to warm up and started their weekend between seven tenths and 1.3 seconds down on the leader, but with plenty of time left to show their speed.
