On the back of an exciting and mildly controversial Sunday in Misano, Augusto Fernandez started Friday morning in Aragon back at the top of the charts. The Spaniard saw some challengers in the final ten minutes, as new tyres were unveiled from their toasty covers, but Fernandez came through once again to steal the headlines from Luca Marini by almost three tenths of a second.
The duo seemed in more of a hurry to secure a top 14 position than the rest of the field, the next man down the road being Lorenzo Baldassarri over six tenths down. Alex Marquez kept a low profile but was close to the action in fourth position, while Tetsuta Nagashima continues an excellent run of form with another top five. Sam Lowes in sixth was the first name to finish over a second slower that Fernandez, just about fending off the rest of the top 11, which was separated by a mere tenth of a second and included Andrea Locatelli, Jorge Martin, Brad Binder, Nicolo Bulega and Tom Luthi.
Remy Gardner and Jorge Navarro just missed out on that select group, with Bo Bendsneyder rounding out the provisional top 14 positions. The likes of Enea Bastianini and Xavi Vierge have some speed to find from 17th and 18th spots, while Fabio Di Giannantonio will be hoping to greatly improve on 23rd on his next outing.
