2020 Phillip Island World Superbike FP1 Result: Redding Leads Baz In Damp Session

Alvaro Bautista opened the season on his Honda, setting out on a damp track while everyone else stayed in, finishing their breakfast. He knocked out a couple of laps before he was joined by Jonathan Rea. Series rookie Federico Caricasulo followed out on his Yamaha with Xavi Fores on a Kawasaki shortly after. Ten minutes in to the new year and only four riders were showing up on the timing screens.

it started raining twenty minutes into the session, so Loris Baz made his entrance and, with tewnty minutes left in the session, made his way to the top of the timing screen, almost a second quicker than Tom Sykes and Jonathan Rea. British Superbike champion Scott Redding finally deposed Baz and consolidated his lead a lap later.

The session ended with Redding over a second quicker than Loris Baz and Leon Haslam while six riders didn't record a lap. American rookie Garrett Gerloff was the quickest newcomer after Scott Redding, seventh quickest on his Yamaha.

Redding will be a force to be reckoned with. He is at a better spot with racing than he has in a long time, perhaps back to his peak of Moto2. He feels great and like he is on song. Watch out.

So wonderful to have this Honda finally! Expect much. The Yamaha too has just made a big step. The BMW may, but I wonder what their current riders are going to muster. Much to see! Toprak is on an uptick. I think Rea will have a challenge this yr.

2020 is ON! We made it.

Scott Redding again in the dry fp2.

Welcome back Honda. The new blade is fast! Leon Haslam, I take it all back, you are rapid! Don't know why Leon Haslam didn't get on with the Kawasaki, but the pocket rocket has got his head around the Honda.

Lots of HRC personnel in the paddock. 20 Honda/HRC people on the team. Plus Takahashi's team. Big H looks serious.

This season is setting up to be a cracker. A resurgent Honda who finally got their act together and got a new blade that looks sharp enough to cut through the ranks.

Redding is looking better session by session and the Duc seems to be the main title challenger this year.

Bimmer looks faster too and I hope Sykes is able to stay with the guys at front this season after half a race and not keep falling back as the race progresses.

Yams look enticing, they have improved the bike and Toprak looks like the guy to put it in the front.

Have fun fighting wars Jonathan, because we sure are gonna have fun watching WSBK 2020!

Honda IL4 fastest straight line in FP2! How long since that was said?

Edit not shown above. But dive into the WSBK timesheets. I know its Friday arvo in bum crack. Its a fact. Well apart from EL on the V4. But his lap times are whiffy
