There were no miracles in store for any riders hoping to join the combined top 14 of the lightweight class on Saturday afternoon. Although the temperatures were quite a bit cooler than FP1, conditions got notably windier and dustier throughout the session and the fastest times were nearly two seconds off what was needed for Q2. So although Jason Dupasquier put his name at the top of the timesheets towards the end of FP3, the Swiss rider will join the Q1 lineup later today, together with the second fastest man of the afternoon, Dennis Foggia.
John McPhee and Izan Guevara were three tenths off top spot but both riders had secured their top 14 positions on Friday, while Xavier Artigas joined out the top five of the session but not the combined top 14. Niccolo Antonelli, Darryn Binder and Sergio Garcia were over half a second slower than the leader but will also be heading straight to Q2, unlike Andrea Migno in ninth place.
Pedro Acosta completed the top ten ahead of teammate Jaume Masia and although both riders secured Q2 spots, the rookie was one of a handful of names sanctioned with a pit lane start for riding slowly and causing a disturbance in FP2. Although lower down the timesheets in FP3, Stefano Nepa, Ryusei Yamanaka, Tatsuki Suzuki, Gabriel Rodrigo, Kaito Toba, Jeremy Alcoba and Romano Fenati were safely inside the combined top 14positions.
