2021 Portimao Moto3 FP2 Result: Rodrigo Rushes To The Top Before Rain Comes

The second outing for the lightweight class in Portimao started on a fully dry track and in nice warm conditions but with the threat of rain just around the corner. Riders went immediately quicker than in FP1 in the much improved conditions and Jaume Masia, who sat out the morning session, headed straight to the top of the timesheets together with teammate Pedro Acosta. The familiar sight lasted until halfway through the session, when Andrea Migno took over at the front and rain flags promptly came out. That did not seem to slow riders too much and prompted a little time attack that saw Gabriel Rodrigo taking control at the top of the timing screens soon after. The Argentine rider went unchallenged because more serious rain returned for the final five minutes and the checkered flag waved to a deserted track.

Migno settled for second, almost half a second slower than the leader, with Masia in third, another two hundredths back. Sergio Garcia and Romano Fenati joined the top five positions, while rookie Acosta dropped to sixth. Tatsuki Suzuki, Jason Dupasquier, Dennis Foggia and Niccolo Antonelli rounded out the top ten, covered by little over one second. Darryn Binder missed out by five hundredths of a second, while teammate John McPhee finished 14th after an early and harmless tumble at turn 4.
