The second set of practice sessions in Jerez brought some dark splotches in the sky but it did not trouble the action for the lightweight class, who enjoyed perfect track conditions and quickly improved their FP1 times. Gabriel Rodrigo continues a solid run in Spain and reclaimed control of the timesheets after narrowly missing out in FP1. The Argentinian rider had built up a gap of almost one second halfway through FP2, which was eventually reduced to two tenths of a second by FP1 top man Niccolò Antonelli, despite an early crash at turn 1 for the Italian.
Romano Fenati made a late jump into third position, ahead of a consistently impressive Jason Dupasquier. Darryn Binder started his session by sliding out at turn two but rejoined the action to finish in the top five. Ryusei Yamanaka in sixth was almost two tenths quicker than Andrea Migno, while championship leader Pedro Acosta kept close in eighth spot. Deniz Öncü and Jaume Masia rounded out the top ten positions.
Ayumu Sasaki missed out on the top ten by three hundredths of a second, but has provisionally secured a combined top 14 position, together with Filip Salac, Jeremy Alcoba and Dennis Foggia – the Italian only 22nd in the session but having done enough in FP1 to keep his place for now. Tatsuki Suzuki was once again the first leader of the session but he dropped to 15th on the combined timesheets after a late tumble at turn 1.
