The sun finally found its way to Barcelona and there was no cloud in sight for the final practice session of the Moto3 class. Gabriel Rodrigo started the day like he finished Friday, at the top of the timesheets at the start of FP3 and maintained his prime position on the combined standings until the final shootout for Q2 places. With the habitual waiting around and faffing about, the time attack lasted only one lap but timing screens turned red all over and the order changed quite drastically. In the end it was Stefano Nepa popping up to the top of the charts and demoting Rodrigo from the lead by four hundredths of a second. Tatsuki Suzuki’s late charge lifted him up to third, with Deniz Öncü and Romano Fenati joining the top five.
Niccolò Antonelli, Jeremy Alcoba, Dennis Foggia and Ayumu Sasaki all finished the session within half a second of the leader, while Filip Salac rounded out the top ten positions. Kaito Toba and Adrian Fernandez missed out on the top 10 by less than a tenth of a second but safely secured Q2 places. The remaining lucky tickets went to Darryn Binder and Izan Guevara, the only riders who failed to get quicker on Saturday morning and finished 21st and 27th on the timesheets but their FP2 times saved the day. That left the likes of Sergio Garcia, Jaume Masia, Andrea Migno, Pedro Acosta and John McPhee to battle it out in Q1, despite only being around 7 tenths slower than the leader.
