2021 Sachsenring Moto2 FP1 Result: Gardner Stays On Top

The intermediate class took their turn in the heat of the Sachsenring and their first practice session ended with championship leader Remy Gardner in prime position. Joining him not only in the top 2 of the session but also in the premier class next season is Fabio Giannantonio, the Gresini rider a tenth of a second off the lead. Xavi Vierge led the way at the halfway mark of the morning session, before dropping to third, ahead of rookie sensation Raul Fernandez, who started FP1 at the top and ended it two tenths behind his teammate.

Augusto Fernandez joined the top five, while teammate Sam Lowes also finished within half a second of the leader but got demoted to seventh position by a last minute jump up the timesheets from Lorenzo Dalla Porta. Jorge Navarro, Marco Bezzecchi and Tony Arbolino rounded out the top 10, the rookie doing well to cling onto 10th despite a late tumble at the final corner. He wasn’t the only one to suffer at turn 13, as teammate Marcel Schrotter did that a few minutes before and Hafizh Syahrin followed their example soon after. Aron Canet chose turn 12 instead and ended the morning in 12th place, with Simone Corsi, Albert Arenas and Syahrin also provisionally inside the top 14.
