Moto3 riders started the second round of practice sessions under a burning sun and despite an attempt at a late time attack, most FP1 times stood on the combined timesheets. John McPhee remained the fastest man on track at the end of Friday’s action, courtesy of his FP1 time, but it was championship leader Pedro Acosta grabbing the headlines for FP2. The Spaniard was one of the few to improve their time in the afternoon session, which he finished half a tenth faster than Gabriel Rodrigo. The Argentinian rider also took a quick turn at the front during the session, while Deniz Öncü joined the top three, another tenth back.
Tatsuki Suzuki climbed up to fourth, with Romano Fenati joining the top five after going quicker in the afternoon session. Stefano Nepa finished sixth in the session and sixth overall, only five thousandths of a second faster than Darryn Binder, whose late charge promoted him to 10th on the combined timesheets. Dennis Foggia, rookie Izan Guevara and Jaume Masia rounded out the top 10 positions in the session, all three safely inside the provisional top 14. Although he kept top spot in the combined standings, McPhee was 11th in FP2 and seven tenths off the lead.
Andrea Migno ended the session 17th, after his machine unhelpfully had a problem in the final minute, but the Italian’s FP1 time saved his day and keeps him provisionally in the top 14, together with Niccolò Antonelli and Filip Salac, who both had a low key session. Sergio Garcia will be looking to change that hierarchy on Saturday morning, after an early tumble at turn 3 affected his session and left him over a second slower than the leader.

We are going to see penalties
We are going to see penalties Sunday. The sitting up is one thing, but it has to be the swerving they are going to address. That shite was too far.
That big fan out of bikes converging into a corner left the exciting barrier and into a problem. We may have entered thoughts of changing the engine in the rulebooks here, but were the only ones. We have exactly this formula for next year. The kids will try again, despite the big talk. Race Direction is going to penalize. It is the script.
