It was another hot morning in Germany and the battle for the top 14 was just as hot in the lightweight class. Riders miraculously avoided leaving pitlane at the very last second – and sometimes a few seconds too late – and started a first time attack halfway through the session. They even snuck in a generous two or three flying laps for the second attack in the final four minutes or so. Andrea Migno made the best of those final few laps to jump from outside the top 14 to the top of the timesheets, less than a tenth of a second ahead of compatriot Stefano Nepa. Kaito Toba led the way after the first time attack and kept close the second time around, keeping third in front of compatriot Tatsuki Suzuki and Filip Salac, who completed the top 5.
Rookie Lorenzo Fellon shined in sixth position, ahead of Dennis Foggia, who was one of the early leaders of the session. John McPhee held onto top spot on the combined standings until the final third of the session and was slower to improve on his Friday benchmark but eventually managed to do it to secure eighth place. After an underwhelming Friday, Sergio Garcia climbed up to ninth in the losing stages of FP3, while Romano Fenati completed the top 10.
Rookies Izan Guevara, Xavier Artigas and Pedro Acosta also secured top 14 positions, the championship leader ending practice half a second off top spot. The final direct Q2 ticket was taken away from Jaume Masia after a late track limits infringement and handed to Niccolò Antonelli. The Spaniard will be joining the likes of Deniz Öncü, Darryn Binder and Jeremy Alcoba in the battle of Q1. Gabriel Rodrigo suffered a high side at turn 3 after only a couple of laps and missed the rest of the session while getting a medical check, which saw him drop down to 18th on the combined standings.
