It looked like all qualifying sessions of the day would avoid rain as MotoE riders whooshed by on a hot and windy track to battle for pole. Mattia Casadei held provisional pole early on but the lead started to quickly change hands as the favourites took their turn on track. In the end, Eric Granado scored his fourth consecutive pole position with an advantage of seven hundredths of a second over Lukas Tulovic. After being fastest in practice, Alessandro Zaccone was the unluckiest rider of the lot, as drops of rain started falling on his flying lap, but the Italian still scored his first front row start of the season.
Jordi Torres briefly led the way before dropping to fourth, while Dominique Aegerter was not really a threat for pole and had to settle for fifth, with Matteo Ferrari joining them on the second row of the grid. Fermín Aldeguer continued a solid run with seventh position and ahead of Casadei and Corentin Perolari on row three.
There will be a lot of action at the back of grid too, where Yonny Hernandez, Miquel Pons and Xavi Cardelus will be starting after track limits infringements for Hernandez and Cardelus and a penalty for exiting pitlane under a red flag for Pons.
