The Czech track Autodrom Most has twenty one corners and this is its first international race weekend. The weather was dry and warm as the riders prepared for the fifteen minutes that would determine the grid for this afternoon's feature race and tomorrow morning's sprint race. Riders have two qualifying tyres so that a yellow flag doesn't ruin their only possible fast lap.
Scott Redding sat in the pits as everyone else headed out, with most riders opting for one of their qualifying tyres at the start. Jonathan Rea opened up qualifying with a 1'32.594 on the SCX tyre with Garrett Gerloff within a tenth of a second as Scott Redding set out on his qualifying tyre. Andrea Locatelli and Toprak Razgatlioglu knocked Rea off the top spot with Locatelli setting a 1'32.335 on a qualifying tyre.
Scott Redding, riding on his own as other riders were pitting in and out, made the tactic pay with a 1'32.305 to go to the top, but shortly after, after being demoted to fifth place by Michael Ruben Rinaldi, spent the first of his qualifying tyres to get a 1'32.120 on the sheets. Tom Sykes demoted Scott Redding to third place, just missing out on beating Rea in the last sector, but Toprak Razgatlioglu set a 1'31.751, a third of a second quicker than Rea as Scott Redding and Jonathan Rea set out on their last qualifying tyre with the time running out.
A frustrated Scott Redding rolled off for Karel Hanika's yellow flag, but he was quickly back up to speed as Jonathan Rea set a 1'31.684. Redding was unable to depose Rea and Razgatlioglu as the flag came out. Jonathan Rea's two stop strategy paid off.
The front row mirrored the top three in the title chase, with Jonathan Rea leading Toprak Razgatlioglu and Scott Redding and setting his sixth consecutive pole position of the the season's six races. Tom Sykes leads the second row, alongside Garrett Gerloff and Andrea Locatelli.
