Sunshine was on the menu for Saturday morning in Spielberg and although riders were in no rush to improve their times early on, things soon got heated and the top 14 came down to the final flying laps. Remy Gardner proved to be the quickest man on track, the championship leader drawing ever nearer to the lap record and seven hundredths of a second ahead of his rivals. Friday leader Marco Bezzecchi started the day with a strange crash on the exit for turn 3 but was quickly on the pace when he rejoined for the final five minutes. The Italian very briefly held the lead before settling for second behind Binder.
Aron Canet was one of the last riders to go faster than on Friday but he climbed straight up to third on his final flying lap. Augusto Fernandez led the way for much of the session and showed impressive pace as well, but failed to improve in the late time attack and dropped to fourth, just ahead of teammate Sam Lowes. Raul Fernandez kept close to the usual suspects, only two tenths of a second behind his leading teammate and one tenth ahead of fellow rookie Ai Ogura. Lorenzo Dalla Porta, Marcos Ramirez and Marcel Schrotter completed a top ten covered by half a second, while the final riders heading straight to Q2 will be Tony Arbolino, Tom Luthi, Somkiat Chantra and Xavi Vierge.
Celestino Vietti missed out by one hundredth of a second after a late tumble at turn four and will be joined in Q1 by the likes of Nicolo Bulega, Fabio Di Giannantonio, Albert Arenas and Joe Roberts, with the top 22 riders covered by one second.
