2021 Austria MotoGP FP3 Result: Bagnaia Picks Up The Pace

By Zara Daniela | Sat, 14/08/2021 - 09:02

After the unexpected washout of FP2, the premier class took no chances on Saturday morning and attacked the timesheets quite early. The Frenchmen traded top spot early on, with Fabio Quartararo spending the most time up there but with Johann Zarco’s FP1 lap record still standing. Although Pecco Bagnaia eventually demoted Quartararo from the lead of FP3, the Yamaha man showed impressive pace, while Zarco remained the fastest man of the weekend and third in the session.

Marc Marquez continued his experiments on the Honda and chose his teammate as a tour guide on his way to fourth on the timesheets. Aleix Espargaro joined the top five, with Jack Miller making a late bid for sixth. Joan Mir comfortably went through to Q2, as did Takaaki Nakagami, Brad Binder and Pol Espargaro, the Honda man six tenths of a second down on the leader.

After a late tumble at turn 10, Styrian GP poleman Jorge Martin will have to go through Q1 to repeat the feat and will face stiff competition from the likes of Alex Rins, Miguel Oliveira and Alex Marquez.
