The intermediate class were last to take a ride around Silverstone after a pretty lengthy wait and Jorge Navarro was quickest in the cool and overcast conditions. Augusto Fernandez was his main challenger, the Marc VDS rider one tenth of a second behind his compatriot and almost half a second ahead of the KTM Ajo duo of Remy Gardner and Raul Fernandez. Joe Roberts climbed into the top five ahead of Sam Lowes, who did limited running after a late tumble at turn 18.
Bo Bendsneyder, Tom Luthi, Nicolò Bulega and Xavi Vierge completed the top 10, ahead of Fabio Di Giannantonio – the Italian a second and a half behind the leader. Marco Bezzecchi and Aron Canet made a slower start down in 15th and 16th positions, while rookie Ai Ogura is still finding his feet around Silverstone down in 25th spot at the end of FP1. A notable mention goes to Fermin Aldeguer, making a surprise appearance for the Speed Up squad in 23rd.
