2021 Silverstone Moto2 FP3 Result: Canet Climbs To The Top

By Zara Daniela | Sat, 28/08/2021 - 10:54

There was a hint of sunshine for the final practice session of the intermediate class but riders were in no hurry to improve their times from Friday and it was not until the final seven minutes of FP3 that Aron Canet demoted Raul Fernandez from the lead of the combined standings. Although the Spaniard soon followed it up with a crash at turn 9 following a slight clash with his compatriot, Canet kept top spot in the session. Remy Gardner came closest to challenging that, finishing second by three hundredths of a second. Jorge Navarro continued his solid run in Silverstone with third place, three tenths off the lead and another tenth ahead of Fabio Di Giannantonio, with Marco Bezzecchi joining the top 5.

Raul Fernandez dropped to sixth, ahead of Joe Roberts and Sam Lowes, while Nicolò Bulega and Marcel Schrotter completed the top 10 positions. Augusto Fernandez and Bo Bendsneyder were the last riders to post a time within a second of the leader and the final tickets straight to Q2 were secured by class veteran Tom Luthi and impressive newbie Fermín Aldeguer. Xavi Vierge was left to deal with Q1 after a late crash at turn 12 and will be joined there by the likes of Ai Ogura and some of the other names on the FP3 crash list: Albert Arenas and Stefano Manzi.
