Two red flags for two serious crashes seriously disrupted the efforts of the Moto3 riders to get through to Q2 on Saturday morning. First, Deniz Oncu fell heavily at Turn 16, causing the session to be stopped to attend to the Tech3 KTM rider, then Alberto Surra hit the back of Yuki Kunii's bike at Curvone, crashing heavily at the fastest corner on the track. Both Oncu and Kunii were reported to be conscious and transported to the medical center for further treatment.
The second red flag left just enough time for a single lap dash, with the entire field heading out of pit lane at the same time, but without time to mess around looking for a tow. In the end, it was Andrea Migno who came away from the session as fastest, ahead of Dennis Foggia and Pedro Acosta. Sergio Garcia and Romano Fenati, the other two riders in the fight for the Moto3 crown, also made it straight through to Q2. Everyone who made it through to Q2 improved their time in FP3.
