2021 Austin Moto2 FP3 Result: Another Raul Fernandez Headline

The weather in Austin was stable enough to deliver three dry FP3 sessions and the intermediate class didn’t have to rush to sort out the top 14 positions. Despite a few movements early on, Raul Fernandez’s Friday benchmark stood until the final handful of minutes of FP3, when fellow rookie Ai Ogura and then teammate Remy Gardner challenged for the top of the timesheets. However, Fernandez quickly responded to reclaim the lead by six hundredths of a second from Gardner, whose final charge was derailed by a moment in the final sector. Fabio Di Giannantonio climbed into third late in the session, demoting Ogura to fourth, half a second off top spot.

Augusto Fernandez made some progress to lead teammate Sam Lowes on the timesheets, while rookie Cameron Beaubier continues to shine on home soil, this time up to 7th position. Marco Bezzecchi in 8th was seven tenths off the lead and ahead of Aron Canet, who took a quick trip to the medical centre after an early crash at turn 6 but was swiftly back in action to secure ninth. Albert Arenas rounded out the top 10 placements, with Jorge Navarro recovering some ground after a challenging Friday. Simone Corsi, Jake Dixon and Xavi Vierge secured the final tickets straight to Q2, leaving the likes of Tom Luthi, Marcel Schrotter and Marcos Ramirez to fight it out in Q1.
