The significantly wet conditions were not conducive to improvements on the combined standings for the intermediate class throughout FP3, with Friday’s times ending up deciding the line-up for Q2, meaning that despite Tony Arbolino topping FP3, he will join the cast for Q1 later today. The rookie robbed compatriot Marco Bezzecchi on his final flying lap and by only three thousandths of a second, the SKY Racing rider also joining him in the first qualifying session. Augusto Fernandez dropped to third by half a second, but the Spaniard was safely in Q2 as the leader of the combined standings.
Fermín Aldeguer made a late jump into fourth position, ahead of compatriot Raul Fernandez and the duo will be keeping each other company in Q2. Jorge Navarro took sixth but will also take a trip through Q1, unlike Aron Canet and Somkiat Chantra, who followed him on the timesheets for FP3. Hector Garzo and Celestino Vietti rounded out the top 10 positions, although only the Italian had secured a Q2 ticket. Remy Gardner was one second off top spot but safely in Q2, together with Jake Dixon, Xavi Vierge, Ai Ogura, Stefano Manzi, Sam Lowes, Tom Luthi and Marcos Ramirez. One notable absence from the session was Joe Roberts, who was deemed unfit for the race due to a collarbone fracture sustained on Friday.
