2021 Valencia MotoGP FP2 Result: Miller To The Fore

The premier class returned to a cool drying track with damp patches for their second practice session but conditions were good enough for quick improvements on the timesheets, helped by slick rubber. It was no surprise to see a Ducati at the top end, Jack Miller taking the lead in the time attack of the final handful of minutes. Pol Espargaro came within a hundredth of a second of challenging the Australian but a late tumble at turn 6 put him out of contention. However, the Spaniard did manage to separate the red machines, dropping Pecco Bagnaia to third. The Italian had led the way early on and finished only half a tenth behind his teammate.

Alex Rins was the lead Suzuki in fourth, with Jorge Martin adding a third Ducati to the top five. Takaaki Nakagami in sixth place was half a second off top spot and very closely followed by Joan Mir. Brad Binder led the charge for KTM after an early tumble for Iker Lecuona slowed his progress, while Andrea Dovizioso was a welcomed sight in ninth, as the lonely Yamaha in a top 10 closed by Johann Zarco. Fabio Quartararo was the first victim of the tricky conditions, the world champion losing the front at turn 2 barely 10 minutes into the session and although he soon re-joined the action, he missed out on the provisional top 10 by one tenth of a second and will be hoping for no more surprises on Saturday morning.
