Portimão Moto2 Test Day 1 Times: Dixon Leads As Official Moto2 Test Gets Underway

Jake Dixon has got his 2022 preseason off to a good start, topping the timesheets at the end of the first day of the Moto2 test at Portimão. The GasGas Aspar team rider was fastest on a blustery day in Portugal, the wind whipping hard around the top part of the circuit catching more than a few riders out. Dixon's time was a second off the circuit record, a reflection of the difficulty of conditions.

Aron Canet ended the day second quickest, just ahead of Augusto Fernandez and impressive rookie Pedro Acosta, while Cameron Beaubier ended the day as fifth fastest.

The difficult conditions meant that teams changed their testing plans, several riders not going out at the end of the day and in the morning session. The weather is set to be much better over the next couple of days, temperatures riding and the wind set to drop allowing for much more concentrated testing. With Dunlop having brought three different tires to Portimão, including an option in between the two current choices, the Moto2 teams have plenty of work still to do.
