2022 Mandalika Moto3 FP1 Result: Surra Kicks Off Proceedings In Indonesia

MotoGP’s return to Indonesia started with talk of the weather but instead of incredible heat, Friday morning came with a heavy downpour, leaving the much-talked-about surface somewhat cooler and very much wet. Fairings and visors with an impressive dirt finish were the norm, although grip didn’t seem to be much of a concern for the lightweight class. Alberto Surra posted the first benchmark in Mandalika in the closing stages of FP1, topping the session by only half a tenth from Deniz Öncü and Izan Guevara.

There was a solid rookie showing as well, with Daniel Holgado climbing into fourth, while Carlos Tatay completed the top five ahead of early session leader Jaume Masia. Teammates Elia Bartolini and Matteo Bertelle were separated by two tenths of a second, with Xavier Artigas and Stefano Nepa rounding out the top 10 positions. Rookie Scott Ogden climbed as high as 11th position, one second off top spot and just ahead of Sergio Garcia, while fellow rookies Ivan Ortola and Diogo Moreira also put their names into the initial top 14 in Indonesia.
