World Superbike returns for a new season and picks up where it ended, with Jonathan Rea topping the timing sheets, dominating the session until Toprak Razgatlioglu joined him in the 1'49s, minutes from the flag. Michael Ruben Rinaldi snuck into third place at the session's end, ahead of Alex Lowes, Alex Lowes and Garrett Gerloff. Loris Baz was the quickest BMW with Ukrainian Ilya Mikhalchik, replacing the injured Michael van der Mark, making his World Superbike debut eleventh quickest, beating his teammate Scott Redding.
Toprak Razgatlioglu is running the number one plate while Jonathan Rea returns to his familiar 65 plate that hasn't been used since 2015.

Concerning for Redding is that he is consistently being outperformed by Baz on a customer BMW.
I'm a Baz fan. Probably too
I'm a Baz fan. Probably too early to tell for Redding, but he seems less the type to roll with something that isn't going well--or is just more likely to tell us about it at some point.
I like that Top Cat is actually running the #1!
