The hunt for a tow and/or pole position in the lightweight class produced the usual qualifying routine, flocks of riders running together and eyeing the fast men, but not looking as bad as the premier class this time around. Some of the usual faces headlined Q2, with Andrea Migno and Dennis Foggia trading top spot throughout, the Italian eventually securing pole position on his final flying lap and hoping that his luck has turned after two tough weekends in Indonesia and Argentina. Foggia missed out on a maiden pole position by only six hundredths of a second, while Xavier Artigas cruised through Q1 and then went from 13th to third on his last lap of Q2 to claim a first front row start in the world championship.
Deniz Öncü made some late progress to secure fourth, ahead of Jaume Masia and top rookie Diogo Moreira. Daniel Holgado will open the third row of the grid ahead of Kaito Toba and Ayumu Sasaki, while Izan Guevara was the initial leader of the session, before dropping to the bottom of the top 10. The Spaniard heads row four from Stefano Nepa and Q1 surprise Scott Ogden. I don’t always detail the grid beyond row five, but it’s a necessity this time around, as that’s where the championship leader ended up, Sergio Garcia qualifying 15th, behind Elia Bartolini and Carlos Tatay and 1.3 seconds off pole. However, that might mean nothing if the usual Moto3 plotline is followed and a big group gets to have podium aspirations.

Penalties
I can see plenty of penalties being handed out for tomorrows race.
They should be applied
to the idiots in Moto GP who were acting like, well, idiots.
