2022 Assen World Supersport Race One Result: Perfect Timing Wins

World Supersport race one was eighteen laps of a windy Assen.

Dominique Aegerter led Can Oncu into turn as Nico Bulega got a slow start in third place but retained his position on the brakes into the corner. Lorenzo Baldassarri carved through to fourth place ahead of Glenn van Straalen and Federico Caricasulo. Bulega took second from Oncu into turn one of lap two. At the end of lap two, Bulega took the lead only for Aegerter to pull it back into the last chicane. Baldassarri and van Straalen pushed Oncu back to fifth place as Federico Caricasulo set the fastest lap in sixth place.

At the start of lap four, the leading four riders headed into turn one as a bunch, with Nicolo Bulega taking the lead from Dominique Aegerter but Lorenzo Baldassarri crashed into turn ten and pulled into the pits. A lap later, Can Oncu also crashed out at turn seven, walking away from his crash.

Nicolo Bulega led Glenn van Straalen and Dominique Aegerter with over a second to Stefano Manzi, Niki Tuuli, Jules Cluzel and Federico Caricasulo. Another crash at lap ten, Stefano Manzi lost his Triumph, walking away as the Marshalls recovered his bike.

On lap seven, Glenn van Straalen led the race to the jubilation of his fellow dutchmen in the grandstands, leading Nicolo Bulega and Dominique Aegerter. Two seconds behind, Jules Cluzel fought with Niki Tuuli and Federico Caricasulo. Eight laps down, Dominique Aegerter took second from Nicolo Bulega.

At half race distance, Glenn van Straalen led Dominique Aegerter who just posted a 1'37.926 fastest lap closing up to the leader. Nicolo Bulega was three quarters of a second behind, almost three seconds clear of Jules Cluzel, Niki Tuuli and Federico Caricasulo.

Glenn van Straalen survived another lap in the lead as he and Aegerter set exactly the same lap times, holding their positions and leaving Nicolo Bulega a second behind. Jules Cluzel held a lonely fourth place as Federico Caricasulo and Niki Tuuli contested fifth place over a second behind.

Glenn van Straalen led the race comfortably, but Dominique Aegerter matched him turn for turn to remain under two tenths of a second off the lead. With five laps to go, Dominique Aegerter snuck under van Straalen into the turn thirteen and fourteen chicane, just past the timing beacon as the red flags came out for a turn seven crash between Tom Booth-Amos, Alessandro Zetti and Marcel Brenner.

Dominique Aegerter's perfect overtake timing gave him the win by under a tenth of a second over Glenn van Strallen. Nicolo Bulega claimed the last step of the podium, almost two seconds off the leaders. Jules Cluzel took fourth place ahead of Federico Caricasulo and Niki Tuuli.

Dominique Aegerter's win put him into the lead on his own, no longer sharing the top spot with Lorenzo Baldassarri whose crash handed Glenn van Straalen second place. Nicolo Bulega dropped down to fourth place, closing to within two points of Baldassarri.
