2022 Jerez MotoE Qualifying Result: New Season, New Format, New Headliners

MotoE joined the circus for their first weekend of the season, with an upgraded machine, an enhanced calendar and a new but very familiar qualifying format, ditching the E-Pole routine for the Q1/Q2 setup. At the end of the two 10-minute sessions, Miquel Pons secured the first pole position of the season, despite a late tumble at turn eight. While the Spaniard picked himself out of the gravel, rivals tried to catch up with his early benchmark but the closest they could get was six hundredths of a second off. That gap secured second for Hector Garzo, while Mattia Casadei joins them on the front row of the grid.

FP2 leader Eric Granado opens a very strong second row, ahead of Dominique Aegerter and Matteo Ferrari, with reigning world cup champion Jordi Torres starting his title defence from seventh on the grid, his best time half a second off pole. The Spaniard will have the company of Hikari Okubo and Q1 graduate Alex Escrig onto the third row of the grid, while Niccolo Canepa led the way out of Q1 before rounding out the top 10 places in Q2.
