The two Aprilias topping the Friday timing list with some margin, who would have thought that one year ago... Aleix looks so in control, like he was in Argentina. Amazing and wonderful to see a rider peak so high so late in his career, after working his ass off for what feels like decades!

I was also really impressed by the way Viñales was riding that Aprilia this session, man was he sliding that thing in a really effective way! Almost seemed like something from the good old days of sliding power monsters in MotoGP, but with more drive! It will be interesting to see if he can keep this momentum going in FP3 and qualifying - and the first lap of the race! It sure does look like he has found real confidence on that RS-GP! Loved that tap on the tank he gave his bike. How different things were less than a year ago... Many probably thought he had destroyed his career instead of his engine.

may I remind you of the legions of motogp commentators who have fallen into the trap of praising Maverick after a great Friday.

Sunday will definitely be interesting for the Aprilia guys.

Aleix Espargaro is an astronaut. He flew around at the operative ceiling of his machine in the atmosphere for SO long before breaking through and out of orbit. By sheer force of will and unrelenting effort. Lots of emotion.

Huge respect, there have been few.

Our only current Alien Quarty is having his bike's return to feeling Blue on drive out without sufficient grip. Yamaha were smart and fortunate just now signing him. Think they are going to get him a good bike, or ask that he do miracles on an ok ish one? At least an underpowered spinny bike is basically safe when overridden.

As we all know too well Honda neglectful broke the other Alien. It was done with an inversely imbalanced and unrideable bike, careening wildly at an apex without a front end. Our weird world has some balance in it.

Right now, Aleix Espargaro on an Aprilia is a favorite not just for Sunday, but for the 2022 Championship. Howzabout them apples?

And then there is the 2022 KTM Jr Team. Ouch! Herve and Orange bikes, what the heck? Over a second off the 4 or so off the pace backmarkers. This isn't pre season, it's the run into Summer break. That bike, ick. I sincerely feel badly for everyone in that program. Oh, except for Fernandez - he is my new Jorge-Biaggi, except they rode MotoGP bikes well.

The rubber is getting laid down. The pace tomorrow is going to take a step and improve by 1 sec. Who does that? Let's see.

That was funny! And true ... I guess we'll see. The guy has won races at Suzuki and Yamaha ...
