2022 Magny-Cours World Superbike Superpole Result: FIM Rule 1.16.1

In spite of a bad crash in the morning's session at the 180 corner, Jonathan Rea was able to take part in the fifteen minute qualifying session on a rebuilt bike.

Alvaro Bautista opened qualifying with a 1'37.004 but Alex Lowes, Jonathan Rea, Scott Redding and Toprak Razgatlioglu pushed him down, with Lowes setting a 1'36.544. On the second lap, Razgatlioglu set a 1'36.354 before pitting in. Michael van der Mark, returning from injury, stayed out a lap longer, sitting in fourteenth place before pitting in.

With just a lap or two left on the clock, the riders set out to determine their position. Jonathan Rea summoned Lucas Mahias to play rabbit to his hound, but Mahias wasn't up for it, and instead Rea ended up being Redding's target. Alex Lowes nearly caught Razgatlioglu, but Jonathan Rea posted a 1'36.124 with Scott Redding a tenth off his pace as the flags came out. Toprak Razgatlioglu hit traffic on his fast lap, but he still managed to slip up to second place, splitting Redding and Rea by setting the exact same time as Jonathan Rea.
