2022 Mandalika World Supersport Superpole Result: Yellow Flags And A Welcome Return

World Supersport Superpole qualifying put a familiar name in pole position.

Hannes Soomer opened qualifying with a 1'37.239 holding on to the top spot until Niki Tuuli posted a 1'36.746 on his first lap. On their second laps, Can Oncu beat Dominique Aegerter to the top spot with a 1'36.410 until Federico Caricasulo responded with a 1'36.231. 

On his third lap, Aegerter set a 1'36.124 as riders started to pit in with twelve minutes left. Niki Tuuli snuck in a 1'35.947 before joining the rest of the field in the pits. A few early laps were cancelled due to Marecel Brenner's yellow flags at the start of the session, but this had no bearing on qualifying as riders had gone quicker later on.

Lorenzo Baldassarri was the last rider to get out on track at the start of the session and he stayed out, alone on track until there was less than eight minutes left. 

Nicolo Bulega was the first rider to set a time after the break, climbing from tenth place to a provisional third on grid. 

With three minutes left, Federico Caricasulo lost a quick lap missing a corner and running on. He pitted in as Can Oncu slipped into second place, splitting Tulli and Aegerter a minute before the flag came out. 

Glenn van Straalen and Stefano Manzi ended their sessions early with crashes, bringing out yellow flags and cementing the front row of the grid. 

MV Agusta got their first pole position in five years, with Niki Tuuli's first pole of five year, ahead of Can Oncu and Dominique Aegerter. Nicolo Bulega and Federico Caricasulo put Ducati on the second row with Yari Montella rounding out the second row in sixth place.

Lorenzo Baldassarri was in the middle of the third row in eighth place, not helping his fight for the title with Aegerter on the front row.
