Closer than the points suggest
Ah ! The what if's. Yamaha 2nd and 5th. Given their lack of title sponsorship, the gloom and doom of an injury plagued season, you have to hand it to Yamaha/ Jarvis' canny head and the application of their riders in Lorenzo and Spies 2011. Against a rampant Repsol/HRC/Stoner Blitzkrieg...it was a remarkable defense by Yamaha.
Inevitably this seasons rankings will put the Ducati/Rossi/Hayden marriage under the microscope. Ducati's worst achievement since the 990 era. 7th and 8th and litttle to pick between the two factory riders in the points tally.
On a lighter note, congrats to Crutchlow on his 4th place today and rookie award. Abraham has against all odds proven to be a credit to the game in his rookie season. Well done to both of them.
Stoner is the difference
Nothwithstanding the prolonged absences of the two Spanish Aliens, Dovi on the same machine is a good benchmark for Stoner's season. 1 x DNF each, although Stoner's was blameless, and a 122 point gap. A stunning season from the Aussie wizard left them all gasping.
